Thank you so very much for the special pin you made for my son, PVT Cody Alan Smith. I will wear this to let everyone see my hero. I also read about your son and what you are doing now to help others is wonderful.

Thank you again.

Thank you in sharing the story of your son, our Hero! As I read the story of your son, it brought a smile, a tear, and understanding how life can change at the spin of a dime. Our children (no matter what age, they will always be our children) go to war, to provide and protect our Freedom, we always felt they would make it home. Some made it home and some of our children did not. It is the start of a life so painful, only a parent who has lost a child can understand the pain. No "time does not heal" we meet each day with the Grace of God. I too am a Gold Star Mother, I too lost my son to war, our only son. I know the pain we both share, our families share. It is a life I never thought we would ever have. I "Thank Your" son for serving our country, protecting our Freedom and to your family for your support while he was serving his country. As a Gold Star Mother, I know the "knock at the door" will forever be remembered/replayed in our minds, for the rest of our lives, it was the day, our lives were to changed forever. I know that when we received the "folded flag", it took us back in time, when our son's were born and we were handed a beautiful baby in a beautiful blanket, That is what I felt when I received the folded flag, but this time--it was filled with such loneliness and heartache--it was a pain too difficult to describe.
I send you my Hug's and Love and know that your son, will always be Remembered and Honored. Thank You
Mary Todd

I HAVE READ YOUR HEART FELT STORY. THE STORY HAS TOUCHED MY HEART. I CAN SAY THIS, A MOTHERS CRY ECHOES THROUGHOUT THE UNIVERSE. YOU ARE A STRONG WOMAN. I ENJOYED MEETING YOU. WITHOUT FAMILIES LIKE YOU THIS COUNTRY COULD NOT EXIST AND WE WOULD HAVE NO FREEDOM. AMERICA NEEDS TO KNOW THAT WITHOUT MARINES AND SOLDIERS FIGHTING ON THE FRONT LINES THIS COUNTRY WOULD FALL FLAT ON IT'S FACE. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN AND EXTREMELY PROUD OF THE COURAGE OF OUR BRAVE WARRIORS. MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR ALL YOU DO. FOR THE COMFORT AND PEACE THAT YOU BRING OTHER.

I would just like to share how Shawn impacted my life in the short years we spent as close friends. I meet Shawn in boot camp but didn't really become close friends until we were in schools together to become AAV crewmen. There we spent our off time mainly on the beach putting some cold ones back talking about where we had grown up. Shawn always talked about Billy the Kid or that oh so good dublin Dr. Pepper. So as our time in Cali came to a end there was a group of us that all went to NC Camp Lejuene together there we sharpened our skills as professional warriors. Then got sent to Afghanistan in 2009. My platoon went first then later on Shawn's platoon showed up. I will never forget when they all showed up. Shawn came up to me and said I guess we made the cut!!! With that big jack ass smile in his face. Shawn's platoon and my platoon got different mission while in the suck. So as we pushed out I had know idea that would be one of the last times I would see him. Shawn was a great friend that loved and looked up to his dad Pat. That is also a Marine. He also talked about his loving mother alot Robin. But if I could talk to Shawn today I would thank him for all the great times we had together I would tell him about the time myself and another one of his close friends went to Hico. How his parents and the rest of Hico took us in as if we where one of there's. Rest in peace jack ass you will never be forgotten!!! It was a honor to be your friend and to server with you in this gun club.
